⚾ KBO Baseball Guide for Foreigners (2025)
Korean baseball (KBO) is one of the most fun and unique live sports experiences in Asia. The atmosphere is electric — organized chants, cheerleaders, fried chicken, and beer sold right in the stands. Even if you've never watched baseball before, a KBO game is absolutely worth going to.
Why KBO is Special
- Every team has dedicated cheerleaders on the field leading coordinated chants the whole game
- Each batter has their own unique chant that the entire crowd sings
- You can bring in outside food and alcohol into most stadiums
- Fried chicken and beer (치맥, chimaek) are the iconic stadium combo
- Tickets are very affordable — often ₩10,000–₩20,000
- Season runs from March to October
Seoul Teams & Their Stadiums
LG Twins & Doosan Bears — Jamsil Baseball Stadium
The biggest stadium in Korea (25,000+ capacity). Located in Jamsil, accessible from Jamsil Station (Line 2 or 8). When LG and Doosan play each other here, it's one of the most intense atmospheres in Korean sports.
Kiwoom Heroes — Gocheok Sky Dome
Korea's only domed stadium, right next to Gocheok Station (Line 1). Air-conditioned and covered — great option if it's raining or very hot.
How to Buy Tickets
- Official site: ticketlink.co.kr or each team's official app
- For foreigners, the easiest method is buying at the stadium box office on game day — just show up 1–2 hours before, cash or card accepted
- Popular games (LG vs Doosan, playoffs) sell out in advance — buy online early
- Ticket categories: Outfield (응원석, cheapest and most fun), Infield, Reserved, Premium
💡 Tip: Sit in the outfield cheering section (응원석) for the full KBO experience. It's the cheapest section and the loudest — you'll be surrounded by passionate fans doing coordinated chants the whole game. Bring your own chicken and beer from outside the stadium to save money.
What to Bring
- Cash and/or card — both accepted at most vendors
- Outside food is allowed at most stadiums (Gocheok Dome has stricter rules)
- Plastic cups only for alcohol (no glass bottles inside)
- A light jacket — stadiums can get cold at night even in summer
Understanding the Game
Don't worry if you don't know baseball — it's easy to follow visually. The scoreboard shows everything in real time. Just focus on the crowd reaction and the chants, and you'll have a great time regardless.
- 9 innings, each team bats once per inning
- The team with the most runs at the end wins
- A home run (홈런) is the most exciting moment — the whole stadium erupts
